It is important to remember that the most headaches in children are benign, but when headaches begin a thorough medical evaluation is important.
Treatment of headaches in children can be as simple as an over-the-counter medication in the correct dose. Some children need more aggressive treatment with both a preventive medication and possibly acute medication with subcutaneous injections of the newer anti-migraine headache agent such as sumatriptan.
The child need not suffer: appropriate treatment can significantly alter the course of the headaches frequency and severity.
